Krakow - The church of St. Peter and St. Paul |
 | | Click to enlarge | Situated on Grodzka St., 100m from Wawel Hill. The architecture refers to Rome’s Del Gesu church. Designed on the Latin cross layout & topped with a large dome, the church was to become the first early-baroque churches in Poland. It's the first baroque building in Cracow and was erected by jesuits who arrived around 1580 after fleeing the reformation. In front of the St. Peter & St. Paul Church, there are Twelve Disciples standing on columns which are just copies of the statues from 1723. They are all really sculpted with care and are very daunting - the facial expressions in particular - some statues really look alive.
